International Week 2012 - Knowledge without borders

The Student Parliament and a variety of organizations at the University of Oslo have joined together in the organization of International Week 2012. All events will be held in English and we are hoping to create interesting meeting place for international and Norwegian students to celebrate the year internationalization is in focus at the University of Oslo.

MONDAY 30/01

Continental Breakfast - Europe
Starting at 9.00 - 10.00 a.m. at Villa Eika
Every day a new continent! Would you like to know more about the different places in Europe you can go on exchange? Join us for continental breakfast!
 
Opening ceremony
Starting at 17.00 p.m. at the Chateau Neuf Library
The president of the Student Parliament will open the international week.
Entertainment: the choir Ursi Canentis. 
 
Ping Pong Tournament with Radio Nova
Stay at Chateau Neuf, and go to the foajée for Ping Pong Tournament, starting at 6.00 p.m.!
We provide the table, paddles and balls. You provide the skills. Come and represent your country by playing against both international and Norwegian students in this winter ping pong-tournament. The winner will receive great honor, a prize and get their photo on the Radio Nova website. What better motivation to bring your A-game?

A feature documentary about garbage pickers in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Vik Muniz creates art out of recycled material. According to imdb.com, the documentary is “showing us how to recycle ourselves” in the best manner.  Introduction by Yuri Kasahara

Oslo Ess concert (NO)
Kjeller'n, Helga Engs house (doors open at 6 pm.)
Oslo Ess is a rock/punk-band from Oslo whom recently gave out their debut album ”Uleste bøker og utgåtte sko” (Unread books and worn-out shoes) at Råtass Records. They sing in Norwegian about parties, nightlife ect, and are in many ways the 2011-version of Jokke and Raga Rockers.  If you like Jokke or Raga Rockers, you’ll love Oslo Ess.  In 2011, they came to the final of the prestigious Urørt-competition (untouched), and was on the VG-hit list for many weeks.

Litterature evening - Bokkaféen 19.00 in Biblioteket
The theme for the evening is the South African writer JM Coetzee and his book Disgrace. The movie based on the book will be screened. Introduction by Tonje Vold.

The Exchange Fair
"Knutepunktet", Lucy Smiths house, Blindern
If you are a student at the University of Oslo you can choose between hundreds of educational institutions from all over the world, and study there as part of your degree. You can go on exchange already on autumn 2012, catch the application deadline on the 15th of February! Before you apply, remember to check out which of our partner universities that are the most relevant for you. At the fair on “Knutepunktet”, you will meet representatives from the different faculties and students who’ve been on exchanges and would love to share their experiences with you! 
 
Academic Vorspiel – Brian Palmer (US)
Brian Palmer is an American anthropologist and specialist in religious matters. He is a popular lecturer and active in many public debates. On Friday 3rd of February, he will give a lecture in the library at Chateau Neuf at 7 pm.
 
Jazz Concert THOMAS LITLESKARE KVARTETT (NO) with guest artist Joakim Midler (SWE)
The Club Scene, Chateau Neuf at 8 pm.
The Thomas Litleskare Kvartett is the sound of four young musicians daring to play modern European jazz. With what might remind one of the joys of youthful insolence, the band is courageously playing compositions where the melody is in the high seat, with playful grooves and good karma in the backseat. This night only, the swedish saxophone ledgend, Joakim Milder, will join the band. It will be a great and special experience for both the band and the audience!    Chateau Neuf, Klubbscenen
